Dovizioso ends Pedrosa´s Championship lead

The weather conditions at Shanghai didn't stop 250cc Scot Racing Team rider Andrea Dovizioso from storming ahead to take an excellent second place on the podium of the first ever Chinese GP, Knocking Dani Pedrosa off the first place position in the overall standings in the process.

The Italian's second place at shanghai – combined with his second place in Portugal and his fourth place in Spain – leaves him leading the 250cc championship on 53 points, five ahead of reigning World Champion Dani Pedrosa and three ahead of race winner Casey Stoner.

"The bad weather and Pedrosa behind advised me to stay in touch with Stoner and try to overtake him at the end of the race," said the Italian after the race. "But during the last 6 or 7 laps the rain was getting heavier and many invisible puddles could have threatened the grip of the ground.

"I preferred to not take any risk. With about three laps to go I saw that Stoner had some problems with visor but then I thought to the standing and I was first anyway!

"Pedrosa remains my rider of reference: very clever and with experience. But the next races are on tracks I like very much and I can ride very well. Aprilia has more engine power but is slower in the corners: there will be great fights! I've never imagined such a great season beginning!"

Three races into the World Championship and patterns are starting to emerge – some very strong and consistent riders have dominated the season from the start. Dovizioso has made two consecutive second place finishes and looks like a strong contender for the Championship, along with Australian Casey Stoner who has now taken two consecutive wins, just three races down.

Having been relegated to third place in the overall standings – thanks to both Stoner and Dovizioso – World Champion Dani Pedrosa looks set to be in for a tough year. Pedrosa started the season by winning the first race at Jerez, but since then the likes of Stoner and Dovizioso have more than given him a run for his money.
