Derbi pays tribute to three champions in the presence of the King

Derbi paid tribute to three old champions of the world today in the presence of Spanish King Juan Carlos.

The Spanish motor-racing team celebrated the achievements of former riders Angel Nieto, Jorge Martínez ´Aspar´ and Manuel ´Champi´ Herreros at its factory headquarters in Martorelles (Barcelona).

The three legendary riders immortalized their handprints in a piece of track – part of which will be installed at the entrance of the factory. The handprints of future Derbi GP winners will be added over the years.

Nieto has won five titles for the Spanish brand (three in 50cc and two in 125cc), ´Aspar´ has won four (three in 80cc and one in 125cc) and Herreros, has one victory in 80cc. During the session the riders emotionally recalled their respective paths to the commands of mythical red bullets

The day, and the tribute, had extra significance as it coincided with the visit of SM, King D. Juan Carlos to the installations of the factory. The tribute to the three Spanish champions was also witnessed by the official riders of Caja Madrid Derbi Racing, Pablo Nieto and Nico Terol.
