Can Pedrosa reclaim the championship lead in France?

Race fans will be waiting with baited breath this weekend to see if reigning 250cc World Champion Dani Pedrosa can reclaim his championship lead and knock new leader Andrea Dovizioso from the top position.

Pedrosa took an early lead in the championship standings when he won the opening round of the championship – the Spanish GP at Jerez – but since then he has finished off the podium with a fourth place finish in Portugal and sixth place in China.

After a poor finish at Jerez, Australian Casey Stoner went on to dominate the following two instalments of race action by winning at both Estoril and Shanghai after two closely fought battles with Dovizioso.

However, Dovizioso´s consistency throughout the season so far, two second-place finishes and one fourth place, saw him take the championship lead in China.

High expectations for Sebastian Porto have still to be met in 2005. The Argentinean rider took second place behind Pedrosa at Jerez, but since then has had a turbulent early season, including a ninth place finish in Portugal and fifth place in China.

Frenchman Randy de Puniet has also had an erratic early season. So far only making one podium appearance, at Estoril, he finished both other races out of the points with a distant 18th place finish at Shanghai and a "not-classified" finish at Jerez.

Spanish youngsters Hector Barbera and Jorge Lorenzo will be praying for sunshine in France after the Shanghai rain put pay to their efforts in China.
