MotoGP teams get extra mileage at Le Mans

Most MotoGP teams stayed at le Mans for a two-day test on the Bugatti circuit, after this weekend's Grand Prix Alice de France. After three days of poor conditions, the teams started late to enjoy a completely dry track.

Movistar Honda's Marco Melandri has posted the best time ahead of Ducati Marlboro rider Carlos Checa and yesterday's race winner, Gauloises Yamaha Valentino Rossi. Sete Gibernau was fourth, just 0.014s faster than Colin Edwards.

Melandri worked on his RC211V settings and tried new helmet venting solutions, but also a radio system. The Ducati factory riders tested a new clutch, a revised rear suspension linkage, and new engine mapping designed to give their Desmosedici GP5s more rideability. Yamaha focussed on new engine parts and also evaluated new mappings.

Nicky Hayden was the only Repsol Honda rider on duty as Max Biaggi decided to sit out the test to nurse his sore back, consequence of a heavy crash in yesterday's warm-up session. The Italian was able to take fifth in the race, but he will need some rest in order to be fully fit for his home GP at Mugello in two weeks time. Alex Barros was also recovering from his crash in Sunday's race.

Today's test marks the end of Olivier Jacque's official commitment to Kawasaki, although there is a chance that the former 250cc World Champion could continue in a development role with the Japanese factory, and the possibility of a wild card ride in the future cannot be ruled out.
