125cc: a more even category than ever

125cc: a more even category than ever

So far in the 2005 season of the 125cc World Championship no rider has had a dominating presence. There is only a 20-point difference between fifth place occupier Mattia Pasini and Championship leader Mika Kallio, who has made the most podium appearances.

The only real discrepancies can be seen in the Manufacturer's Championship with Aprilia, Honda and KTM far ahead of all the others. All three have been represented on the podium with wins this season.

Aprilia has claimed two victories, thanks to Marco Simoncelli (Nocable.it Race) in Jerez and Mattia Pasini (Totti Top Sports) in Shanghai, and leads the Championship with a 13-point advantage over KTM and Honda. However, the Austrian factory still has its man Mika Kallio leading the World Championship.

Looking at the standings and the general order of things, an interesting fact emerges: since Arnaud Vincent's double win in 2002, no rider has made it two-in-a-row. Several of the front-runners will be striving to lay the bizarre fact to rest in the next GP in Italy.
