Italy dominate the MotoGP class

With top riders like Valentino Rossi, Marco Melandri, Max Biaggi and Loris Capirossi, Italy is by far the strongest nation in the premier class.

Since the introduction of the new rules at the beginning of 2002, allowing four-stroke machines of higher capacity into the Championship, Italian riders have dominated the MotoGP class.

Italian riders have won 38 of the 52 races since the start of 2002 as well as scoring more podiums, poles and fastest laps of any other nation as shown in the following list. Since the start of 2002 the only MotoGP race at which there were no Italian riders on the podium was the Qatar GP last year when Gibernau won from Edwards and Xaus.
