Checa fighting back to fitness

Carlos Checa is working hard to boost his physical fitness in preparation for the Gran Premio Alice d'Italia this weekend. As the rider of an Italian factory bike, the Mugello race is an important appointment for the Ducati man and this weekend he will be driven by a sense of obligation, not to mention pride. After crashing out at the very first chicane in the French GP, after clashing with Max Biaggi, Checa will be hoping to have left his bad luck at Le Mans.

However, leaving nothing to chance, the Spaniard seized the opportunity provided by the two-week break to whip himself into shape. Passing up the opportunity for a weekend of relative tranquillity, Checa decided, instead, to indulge in a weekend of hiking escapades.

Swapping fastest laps for pain barriers, the resolute Ducati man took an adventure hike to the summit of the Pyrenees. After reaching the 3.404-metre apex, Checa topped off the day's action by descending the mammoth mountain on skis.
