Kallio sets early pace at Mugello

The World Championship resumed this morning after a two-week break at the sunny Mugello circuit. The festivities started with the first 125 free practice session, which saw Championship leader Mika Kallio posting the fastest last on his KTM.

The Finn edged out local hero Marco Simoncelli, one of the four riders who has already won a race this season, by one second. Third fastest was Derbi's Lukas Pesek, ahead of French youngster Mike di Meglio.

Thomas Lüthi, who took his debut win at the previous round in le Mans, posted the fifth fastest time. He was followed by Kallio's Red Bull KTM team-mates Julian Simon and Gabor Talmacsi. Sergio Gadea, Hector Faubel and Fabrizio Lai completed the top 10.
