Ducati Marlboro's Carlos Checa has set the fastest time of the final free practice session at Mugello, lapping in 1'49.916 to finish 0.7s faster than Sete Gibernau's best time from yesterday.

Second fastest was Brazilian veteran Alex Barros, riding for Camel Honda, back on form after undergoing intense treatment following his crash at le Mans. Gauloises Yamaha's Valentino Rossi was third fastest ahead of Loris Capirossi and Sete Gibernau.

Gibernau was once again faster than his team-mate Marco Melandri. Repsol Honda's Max Biaggi and Nicky Hayden took seventh and eighth respectively, while Shinya Nakano and Colin Edwards completed the top 10.
