Mika Kallio starts from pole position for the third time this season.

Kallio's 13th position in 2003 is the only time he has finished a race at Mugello.

After four different winners from the opening four rounds, this could be the first time ever that the opening five races of the year have been won by five different riders.

For the first time ever KTM are starting from the first two places on the grid. The Austrian factory has yet to see two of its riders finish together on the podium.

Gabor Talmacsi starts from his highest ever grid position, his previous best being third at Rio 2002 and China earlier this year.

If Thomas Luthi takes the win in Italy he will end a record sequence of forty-three races without a rider in the 125cc class winning back-to-back races.

Hector Faubel has matched his best ever qualifying result, achieved at the last Grand Prix at Le Mans.
