Lorenzo snatches his first 250cc pole

After setting the fastest time during the last free practice session, Fortuna Honda rider Jorge Lorenzo confirmed his great form this afternoon by taking his first pole position in the quarter litre class, beating yesterday's pacesetter Casey Stoner (Aprilia) to the top spot.

As Honda will be aiming for their first 250cc victory at Mugello since Max Biaggi's win in 1997, the Japanese manufacturer will also be represented in the front row by Andrea Dovizioso, third fastest ahead of Randy de Puniet.

The second row will be formed by Aprilia Aspar's Sebastian Porto, who walked unscathed from a crash, and factory colleague Alex de Angelis. Movistar Honda's Dani Pedrosa was seventh fastest, qualifying ahead of Lorenzo's team-mate Hector Barbera.
