Toni Elias out of action, David Checa to step in again

Toni Elias will not race in the Catalonian GP this weekend due to the lingering wrist injury he sustained during a test session at Le Mans. The Catalan rider was keen to make his come back at his home Grand Prix after missing the last round through injury, but his left wrist injury proved too painful. Elias managed to complete 22 laps in the first practice session, but couldn't cope with the pain this afternoon and had to throw the towel in.

"I really tried this morning, but we eventually decided to sit it out. In the first session, I was able to ride and I was very motivated but it was completely different this afternoon. I was just falling on the handlebars, I didn't have any strength in the arm and I just couldn't keep up in this condition," explained Elias.

"Now, the main thing is to recover and come back in the best possible condition for the next race in Assen," he added.

After substituting for Elias a week ago in Italy, Endurance World Champion and 2005 Le Mans 24h winner David Checa will stand in for him again this weekend.
