>Sete Gibernau's pole position time is the fastest ever lap of the Catalunya circuit by a motorcycle. The top sixteen riders on the grid have lapped faster than his lap record set last year.

>Marco Melandri, who won the 250cc race at Catalunya in 2002, starts from the front row for the fourth time in 2005. Melandri's third place in the race here last year was his first ever podium finish in the premier-class.
