Pedrosa delights home crowd with pole position

Local favourite Dani Pedrosa charged through the final qualifying session at Montmeló this afternoon to secure pole position for tomorrow's Catalonian GP. The Movistar Honda rider made the break in the closing stages of the second qualifying session, thrilling his home fans with a best lap time of 1'46.238 – a new pole record on the Catalunya circuit.

Despite being relegated to second on the grid, Jorge Lorenzo can be satisfied in the knowledge that he will start from the front row for the fourth consecutive race, ahead of Aspar Aprilia riders Sebastian Porto and Randy de Puniet, who was unable to improve on his previous time.

The second row will be formed by Hiroshi Aoyama, Alex de Angelis, Hector Barbera, and Casey Stoner. Qualified in ninth position thanks to the time he posted on Friday, Andrea Dovizioso didn't take part in the session as he suffered a heavy crash this morning. The Italian rider sustained various contusions and will have to pass a medical check tomorrow before the race.
