Lorenzo operated on after Catalunya clash

The Catalonian GP on Sunday was a day to forget for the Fortuna Honda team, with Jorge Lorenzo suffering a heavy crash while battling at the front for a top position.

After falling back to sixth at the start, Lorenzo was gaining places rapidly as he surged through the field. He had moved into third, behind team-mate Hector Barbera, before clashing with Alex de Angelis on lap 11. The San Marino rider had run wide and, while trying to pull back to the inside of the Repsol corner, ran into the path of Lorenzo who could not avoid him. The two bikes clashed and Lorenzo fell, fracturing his collarbone.

He was taken to the Mobile Clinic, where he was seen by Dr Xavier Mir, and will be operated on this afternoon.
Jorge has suffered a double fracture of his left collarbone. To ensure the quickest possible recovery, the best thing will be to operate as soon as possible to place a small titanium plate in the affected area.

After the surgery the rider will again be assessed to see how the operation went. Obviously Lorenzos participation in the Gauloises Dutch GP is now in doubt, although the first thing the rider did was to ask about his chances of making the race because it is at a circuit he is confident will suit his riding style.
