Pasini makes the double

Mattia Pasini has snatched victory at Catalunya to score his second win of the season on the Totti Top Sport – NGS Aprilia. The young Italian hit the front on the second lap and led all the way to the chequered flag, crossing the line with a nine-second gap over Marco Simoncelli.

"It was a comfortable win, but I really didn't expected it. This shows the team did an outstanding job this weekend," said Pasini. "It's a great result, which will give me more confidence, especially after my wrist injury in France - so now I can look forward to winning more races this season. I'm very grateful to my team, but also to the Clinica Mobile staff, who helped me to recover."

Second placed Simoncelli also produced an impressive performance, coming back from sixteenth position after a poor start from the front row of the grid. The Italian was back in third position midway through the race and managed to demote pole-sitter Mika Kallio from second to third.

Finn charger Kallio had a slightly disappointing race, but, at least, made it back on the podium after his crash in Italy. However, he was unable to match the pace of the Aprilia riders in the second half of the race. His team-mate Gabor Talmacsi took fourth, ahead of Tomoyoshi Koyama and Manuel Poggiali.

Thomas Lüthi only managed seventh after a blazing start. The Swiss youngster concedes the Championship lead to Mattia Pasini by one point; while Mika Kallio moves back to third overall, just two points behind the new leader.
