Pedrosa scores historic home win

Dani Pedrosa has become the first Spanish rider to win a 250cc race at the Catalunya circuit, winning an incident-packed race ahead of Casey Stoner and Andrea Dovizioso.

Pedrosa had a poor start and was only tenth on the first lap, while Randy de Puniet grabbed the holeshot before crashing out of the lead on lap 2 – just a lap after his team-mate Sebastian Porto had crashed. Alex de Angelis and Hector Barbera then provided an entertaining battle for the lead, while Pedrosa was recovering steadily.

On lap 10, Barbera was leading when de Angelis and Lorenzo collided, leaving room for Pedrosa to continue his charge. Once he moved up to first, he manage to build up his advantage over his rivals, eventually taking the flag with a 5.6s gap over the second.

"It was a tough race. I had a problem with the clutch at the start and lost some ground, but I was able to come back quickly," explained Pedrosa. "I'm pleased to win on this track, in front of such an incredible crowd."

Behind him, Casey Stoner and Andrea Dovizioso were prompt to move up to second and third respectively; while Barbera lost a lot of ground due to a technical incident and finished in 16th.

Pedrosa's team-mate Hiroshi Aoyama took fourth ahead of Simone Corsi and Randy de Puniet, who was able to rejoin the race after his crash.

Having completed the first hat-trick of his career, Pedrosa has consolidated his championship lead with a 27 points advantage over second-placed Stoner, who has relegated Dovizioso to third overall.
