Warm up: Gibernau, Lorenzo and Kallio on top

MotoGP poleman and local hero Sete Gibernau remained on top this morning ahead of the Catalonian GP, setting the fastest time of the warm-up session ahead of archrival Valentino Rossi. Nicky Hayden was third fastest, with Marco Melandri and Alex Barros completing the top 5.

Spanish riders Jorge Lorenzo and Dani Pedrosa set the pace during the 250cc session. Today, the two Honda riders will try to score the first Spanish win at the Catalunya circuit in the 250cc class. Casey Stoner and Alex de Angelis were third and fourth respectively, ahead of Andrea Dovizioso.

Dovizioso was back on track after sitting out the second qualifying session yesterday afternoon. The Italian had sustained various contusions due to a heavy crash in the free practice session. Randy de Puniet winner at Montmeló for the past two years crashed out this morning.

Pole-setter Mika Kallio was the fastest man in the 125 class, topping the timesheets ahead of Spanish rival Hector Faubel. Last week, these two riders crashed out of the top two positions at Mugello on the last corner and they will try to make it up this afternoon.

Kallios Red Bull KTM team-mate Gabor Talmacsi was third fastest ahead of Manuel Poggiali and Pablo Nieto.

The day started under blue, clear skies and the temperature should reach 30º for the MotoGP race, scheduled at 2.00 PM.
