- Jorge Lorenzo, who starts from pole for the second time in three races, won the 125cc race at Assen last year.

- If Jorge Lorenzo wins the race he will become, at the age of 18 years and 52 days, the youngest ever winner of a 250cc Grand Prix, taking the record from Dani Pedrosa who was 18 years and 202 days old when he took his debut 250cc GP victory in South Africa last year.

- Sebastian Porto, who won the 250cc race at the Dutch TT last year, starts from his best grid position since the second race of the year at Estoril.

- If Dani Pedrosa wins the race he will be the first rider in the 250cc class since Marco Melandri in 2002 to score four or more consecutive GP wins. Pedrosa has finished in the top six in every one of the last twenty races.

- Casey Stoner will be starting from the front row for the fifth time in 2005.

- Andrea Dovizioso and Dani Pedrosa are the only two riders in the 250cc class to have scored points in all of the first six races of the year.

- Randy de Puniet has qualified in ninth place, his lowest qualifying position since he was eleventh on the grid at the Czech GP last year.
