- Mika Kallio starts from pole position for the fifth time in 2005 and for the third successive race.

- For the second time this year KTM riders Kallio and Talmacsi have qualified first and second on the grid.

- Following his win at Catalunya, if Mattia Pasini takes the win at Assen he will end a record sequence of forty-five races without a rider in the 125cc class winning back-to-back races, ever since Arnaud Vincent won at Donington and then Sachsenring in 2002.

- Mattia Pasini is the only rider in the 125cc class to have scored two victories in 2005.

- Marco Simoncelli is the highest placed rider from last year's 125cc race at Assen to still be competing in the class - the first six riders across the line all moved up to ride 250cc machines.

- For the sixth time this year Thomas Luthi is the highest placed Honda rider on the grid.

- Sergio Gadea's sixth place on the grid is his best qualifying result of 2005.
