Tamada ready for Laguna Seca after operation

Makoto Tamada left the Dexeus Hospital on Friday morning after undergoing surgery to solve an arm-pump problem. The Japanese rider went under the knife of renowned arm and hand specialist Doctor Xavier Mir at the Institut Universitari Dexeus in Barcelona.

"I had this problem for a while and I was really bothered last weekend in Assen," explained Tamada. "So I talked with Dr Costa and he advised me to see Dr Mir here in Barcelona, as he had already operated on other riders with the same problem. I'll be fit for the race and I have to thank Dr Mir for that."

"Now I'm heading back to Italy and I should leave for Laguna Seca on Monday or Tuesday. Everybody is pretty excited about Laguna and I'm really looking forward to racing in the States."

The ‘arm-pump' problem is common in motorcycle racing as the forearm muscles are worked so hard that they expand beyond the natural limit and trap nerves in the arm, requiring incisions in the membrane sleeve.
