Melandri looks forward to US round

Movistar Honda's Marco Melandri will find his way around Laguna Seca in confident mood after a brilliant start to the season which has already seen him take four podiums and three fourth-placed finishes from the opening seven rounds.

The Italian lies second in the championship, 63 points behind Valentino Rossi, and brought his trip to the USA forward by a couple of days in order to catch a round of the national motocross series in Michigan.

"Laguna Seca is a surrealist track," said Melandri. "In reality the track is very different to how it looks on television. Everything revolves around the Corkscrew, the most famous corner in the world."

"It is a tight and completely blind ‘S' bend and on your way out there it is like an almost vertical wall, with a quick turn. The Corkscrew is for the brave - your stomach must be in your mouth on the way through… I'm really looking forward to racing at one of the most legendary tracks in motorcycle racing."
