Nicky Hayden remained on top of the timesheets at Laguna Seca on Saturday morning. The Repsol Honda rider was the first rider to dip under the 1'24 mark, setting the fastest time of the third free practice session in 1'23.718.

Aussie Troy Bayliss was once again second fastest and ended the session just 0.079s adrift from his factory colleague. Red Bull Suzuki's John Hopkins was third ahead of Alex Barros and Valentino Rossi.

Local hero Colin Edwards took sixth, while Max Biaggi, Carlos Checa, Sete Gibernau and Marco Melandri completed the top 10.
