Edwards outshines Rossi for the first time

With an excellent performance at Laguna Seca last weekend, American Gauloises Yamaha Team rider Colin Edwards finally managed to outrace team-mate Valentino Rossi to the finish line to take second place in his home GP.

The Texan's second place at the Mazda Raceway was his 3rd podium finish of the season so far, having finished in 3rd both at Assen and Le Mans.

The former Superbike World Champion has already had better results in the first 8 races of the 2005 season than he did throughout the entire 2004 season. He is appearing more competitive race by race and now sits in 5th place in the overall classifications on 93 points, just 2 points behind Spaniard Sete Gibernau.

After finishing as second best Yamaha rider throughout the beginning of season, Edwards was finally able to claim glory as the best Yamaha rider at Laguna Seca. Now that Edwards has become acquainted with the thrill of being number one in the team, surely we can expect to see a lot more from the Texas Tornado.
