Italian riders beat Maradona's team at football

A football team formed by Italian 125 and 250cc riders took victory in a friendly game of football against a team headed by Argentinean football legend Diego Maradona.

Having sat out the last MotoGP appointment at Laguna Seca, the riders were in Italy for the friendly match and managed to win by 9-7, even although Maradona was backed up by other former football stars such as Rizzitelli, who scored 5 goals.

Amongst the Italian rider's team - which included Marco Simoncelli, Mattia Pasini, Simone Corsi, Alex De Angelis and Fabrizio Lai, amongst others - Simoncelli emerged as one of the best players, managing to give Maradona a run for his money .

After the match, the Nocable.it Race rider expressed the difficulty he had containing Maradona: "It was tough stopping him, but we could not leave a bad impression at home, this region of Romagna being the land of the motors."

Meanwhile MS Aprilia Italia Corse rider Simone Corsi managed to score 2 goals in the match, even better than he had hoped for: "I was determined to score at least one goal, but I ended up with two! At the beginning we were just taking it easy, but by the end we all really wanted to win and it was a lot of fun."
