Agostini : "Yamaha was like a new family"

Yamaha celebrated its 50th anniversary last weekend, in a party which reunited many World Champions, including Italian legend Giacomo Agostini. After taking thirteen titles on MV Agusta, ‘Ago' joined the Japanese factory in 1974 and enjoyed immediate success – he won a 350cc title on his first year with Yamaha, and his eighth 500cc title the next year.

"I'm very happy to be celebrating with Yamaha, I had a great relationship with them," said Agostini. "When I left MV Agusta, I found a new family when I joined Yamaha. And giving them their first title in the premier class was also something special."

"When you win with a factory, you can only have good memories – and with two titles during this two-year stint with Yamaha, there couldn't' be much better memories."

Agostini also acknowledged Valentino Rossi's role in Yamaha's recent comeback and discussed the evolution of MotoGP over the years and the return of Grand Prix racing to the States.
