Japanese rider Taro Sekiguchi makes his return to competition this weekend at Donington Park after missing the first half of the season through injury. The 29-year-old from Tokyo broke his leg in a heavy crash at Jerez during the last preseason test back in March and had a lengthy recovery.

After being substituted by Frenchman Hugo Marchand and Italian Michele Danese, Sekiguchi rejoins the 250cc pack to take part in his first Grand Prix on Aprilia machinery.

"I'm very happy to finally be back after such a long time! It won't be easy this weekend, as my injury hasn't fully healed, but it's good to be back with the team," said the Japanese rider. "Last week I had a short test in Japan – it wasn't proper testing, but it gave me an opportunity to get the feeling back."

Sekiguchi has a tough task ahead of him, as he will have to get back up to speed while adapting to a new bike.

"This year I ride an Aprilia, which is pretty different from the Yamaha I had in the past. The engine is much more powerful and the top speed is much higher, and the way you work on the set-up of the bike is also very different."

"During the winter, I was beginning to get a feel for this bike and it was getting better and better until I crashed and broke my leg! I will have to start over again from this weekend, but I'm looking forward to it."
