Fortuna Honda's Jorge Lorenzo set the pace in this morning's free practice session, beating factory colleague and fellow countryman Dani Pedrosa by 0.075s. The reigning World Champion saw his session marred by a crash in the Craner curves, but was able to rejoin to eventually post the second fastest time.

Argentinean Sebastian Porto, winner of the last 250cc round a month ago in Assen, was the best placed Aprilia rider with third ahead of factory colleagues Casey Stoner and Alex de Angelis.

Italian rookie Andrea Dovizioso, who won last year at Donington on his way to the 125cc World Championship, was sixth fastest ahead of Hiroshi Aoyama and Randy de Puniet. Hector Barbera and Alex Debon completed the top 10. Local hero Chaz Davies was eleventh fastest.

This session saw the 250cc KTM make its official debut. Anthony West clocked 26 laps and posted the 17th fastest lap, 2.484s adrift from Lorenzo.
