- Valentino Rossi starts from pole for the fifth time in 2005. From the previous twenty-nine times he has started on pole in the premier-class he has gone on to win the race on twenty-four occasions.

- Rossi's pole position time is the fastest ever lap of the Donington circuit by a motorcycle.

- The top fourteen riders on the grid have lapped faster than current lap record set in the race last year by Colin Edwards.

- Sete Gibernau will be starting from the front row for the grid for the seventh time this year. Gibernau has finished on the podium for the last two years at Donington.

- Marco Melandri, who will be starting from the front row for the sixth time in 2005, won the 250cc race at the British Grand Prix on his way to winning the World Championship in 2002.

- Alex Barros, who made his debut in the 80cc class back in 1986, will be making his 250th Grand Prix start.

- Following his debut GP victory at the US Grand Prix, if Nicky Hayden wins at Donington he will become the first rider in the premier-class since Kenny Roberts in 1999 to convert his debut win into back-to-back victories.

- Having finished on the podium at Assen and Laguna Seca, Colin Edwards will be aiming to be the first American rider to score three successive podium finishes since Kenny Roberts in 2000.

- Troy Bayliss' sixth place finish at the last race at Laguna Seca was his best result since he finished sixth in the opening race of the year at Jerez.
