Several riders pulled on their boots for the yearly charity football game held on the eve of the German Grand Prix at Sachsenring.

MotoGP riders Carlos Checa, Rúben Xaus and John Hopkins were joined by Marco Simoncelli, Thomas Luthi, Sebastián Porto, Pablo Nieto, Dirk Heidolf, Roberto Locatelli and Randy de Puniet to form the MotoGP XI, which faced a Ladies Football team and a German All-Stars team in two 30-minute games at the Hohenstein – Ernsthall centre.

In the first game, Simoncelli, Nieto and Donington 250cc race winner de Puniet scored goals to offer their team a 3-0 win against the Ladies. They faced tougher opposition in the following game, as they won 1-0 against the German All-Stars team formed by various local sportsmen.

The event raised funds for Riders for Health and their continuing programmes to provide transport for medical relief in rural communities of Africa.
