Pasini snatches provisional pole from Kallio

Mattia Pasini clinched the provisional pole position in the first qualifying session of the Alice Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland, posting the fastest lap in the late stages of the session to demote Red Bull KTM's Mika Kallio from the top spot.

The Flying Finn looked dominant in the second half of the session and was on his way to set a new fastest lap before losing time in the fourth sector of his last lap. Italian rider Marco Simoncelli was third fastest ahead of Japanese rookie Tomoyoshi Koyama. The 22 year-old from Kanagawa relegated Swiss youngster Tom Lüthi to the second row of the provisional grid.

Lüthi, who had set the fastest lap in the first practice session, ended the session ahead of Sergio Gadea, Gabor Talmacsi and Fabrizio Lai. Hector Faubel and Manuel Poggiali completed the top 10.
