- Alex de Angelis starts from pole for the second time in the 250cc class, the other being at the British Grand Prix last year. De Angelis' third place last year in Germany was his first podium finish in the 250cc class.

- Alex de Angelis' pole position time is the fastest ever lap of the Sachsenring circuit by a 250cc machine, almost half a second faster than Porto's record pole lap from last year.

- Dani Pedrosa has qualified on the front row for the eighth time from nine races in 2005, the exception being his seventh place on the grid at Mugello.

- Jorge Lorenzo will be starting from the front row for the seventh successive race. If Lorenzo wins the race he will become, at the age of 18 years and 88 days, the youngest ever winner of a 250cc Grand Prix, taking the record from Dani Pedrosa who was 18 years and 202 days old when he took his debut 250cc GP victory in South Africa last year.

- Sebastian Porto finished on the podium at the Sachsenring circuit both last year and in 2002.

- Yuki Takahashi's sixth place on the grid is his best qualifying result since becoming a full-time Grand Prix rider at the start of 2005.
