Matsudo poised for MotoGP debut with Moriwaki

Moriwaki Racing confirmed their wildcard entry for the Japanese Grand Prix to be held at Motegi in mid-september and announced that former 250cc rider Naoki Matsudo would be riding their MD211VF MotoGP prototype.

Matsudo had left the Grand Prix scene at the end of the 2004 season and went back to Japan to race for the Moriwaki Motul Tiger Racing team in the local Superbike Championship. He also had the opportunity to test the MD211VF powered by a Honda V5 engine and prove his skills on 4-stroke machinery.

"It was a great surprise when Mamoru (Moriwaki) announced that I would ride for the Japanese Grand Prix during a party we had after the Suzuka 8 Hours," said Matsudo. "Even if I had the opportunity to test the MD211VF, I hadn't expected to get the ride for the Grand Prix. Getting the chance to ride in the MotoGP was one of my dreams and I will try to make the most of this opportunity, both for the team and myself."

"Even though the time is running out, I'm happy to see that we are all focussed on the same target: to make a competitive chassis. The RCV engine should have enough potential, the main thing is to find the set-up which will suit my riding style. I will try and give everything I have to make an impression in the Japanese Grand Prix."
