Sheene to be honoured at Phillip Island

The now traditional ‘Ride to the GP – A tribute to Barry Sheene' will take place on Thursday, October 13th, on the eve of the Polini Australian Grand Prix. It will be the third year that loyal fans of the late ‘Bazza' will have the opportunity to honour the memory of the last British World Champion.

Registration for the ride from Bairnsdale to Phillip Island will be possible on the morning of the ride. The 300km cruise will start at 10.00 AM. After departing Bairnsdale, the procession will continue under police escort through the central business district of Bairnsdale and on to the Prices Highway to Morwell.

From Morwell the ride will travel along the Strzelecki and Bass Highways, via Leongatha and Wonthaggi, to San Remo – the gateway to Phillip Island. Once at the circuit registered riders will be directed through a controlled checkpoint to complete a slow lap of the circuit.

Sheene won the 500cc World Championship twice during a stellar career in which he established himself as the sport's first global superstar. Having built up a huge following all over the world, the British rider was then accepted warmly by the Australian public as he settled on the Gold Coast and established a distinguished career as a television commentator.
