Injury KO for Nico Terol

Caja Madrid Derbi Racing rider Nico Terol has sustained serious injuries during a training session that necessitated surgery to remove his spleen. As a result, the young Spaniard will miss the forthcoming Japanese GP at Motegi.

Speaking about the crash, Terol stated: `I met with some of my friends to do some training and we were riding bicycles at a small circuit near my home. I fell, the handlebar turned back on me and went into my stomach. I quickly reported the situation and went to hospital with my parents.'

Doctors at the Xativa Hospital in Valencia decided an urgent operation to remove the rider's spleen was the best course of action. Terol has been ordered to rest for the foreseeable future and will definitely miss the Japanese GP, although it is not yet known for how long he will be sidelined.

`I feel more psychological than physical pain, because the injury has forced me to stay at home instead of flying to Japan. It's important for me at the moment to be adding kilometres, experience and knowledge in the World Championship for the next season. The doctors have not said when I can return yet, but the only thought in my head is getting back on the bike,' Terol added.
