New high for the MotoGP Academy in Jerez

MotoGP Academy rider Efren Vazquez yesterday clinched second position at the fourth round of the Spanish 125cc Championship in Jerez. The youngster's result is the best to date for the Academy – a springboard team for young talent supported by Dorna Sports.

The young Basque rider put in a fantastic performance at Jerez. Starting from 15th place on the grid, he passed a number of rivals on the first lap to make up eight positions. Vázquez then fought courageously in a big chasing pack to eventually clinch a podium place. Mateo Tunez won the event, strengthening his lead in the championship with his third victory in a row.

Having claimed their second podium of the season, the MotoGP Academy was given a further boost by the performances of British riders Kev Coghlan – who was making his debut for the Academy - and Bradley Smith who came home fourth and fifth respectively. Vasquez is the best-placed Academy rider in the championship standings, currently sitting in third spot.
