Pedrosa ready to attack Aspar's record

After his win at the Sachsenring, Dani Pedrosa moved level with Alex Criville in the list of Spaniards with most career victories, and then climbed into third place in his own right in that particular category after triumphing at Brno. The 250cc championship leader now begins his quest to catch and surpass the two men who still sit above him in the list, Angel Nieto and Jorge Martinez `Aspar´.

The Movistar Honda rider went into the mid-season break having signed off in perfect style with his fifth win of the opening nine rounds in Germany. He then picked up where he left off at Brno with a thrilling win over rival Jorge Lorenzo that seems to set up another triumphant year before he switches to the MotoGP class next season.

Pedrosa became the youngest rider to win a 250cc race and then win the quarter-litre title. This term he has gone on to better the records of legends like Katoh and Rossi when they were teenage riders. He has also moved ahead of some outstanding Spanish riders like Sito Pons and Ricardo Torno in the list of career victories. Now only Aspar, with 37 wins, and Angel Nieto, with 90, are ahead of Pedrosa, who has already enjoyed 21 triumphs despite being just 19 years of age.

250cc, 2005, Dani Pedrosa
