Gibernau back on top in BMW Award

Sete Gibernau is back at the top of the standings for the BMW Award for qualifying after clinching his third pole position of the season at Brno. The Spaniard has opened up lead of 0.093 of a second on nearest rival Valentino Rossi in this competition where speed and consistency are vital.

Rossi is comfortably clear in second place with a gap of some 3.017 seconds to Nicky Hayden who has moved into third at the expense of Marco Melandri after taking second place on the grid in the Czech Republic. Alex Barros in fifth is even further back still with some seven seconds separating him from the top two.

Gibernau has led the BMW Award practically all season, but lost it to Rossi after qualification for the American Grand Prix at Laguna Seca. The Italian, who won the award last year, held top spot for the next two rounds but surrendered it after falling at Brno. It looks like going right down to the wire in the final six rounds of the season.
