Miralles recovering his confidence

The long wait finally came to an end for Julian Miralles last weekend as the young Spaniard made his return to the 125cc World Championship following the horrendous injuries he suffered after crashing at Mugello. Miralles was still suffering pain from those injuries as he got back on the bike at Brno, but is delighted to be back.

`I was conscious from the first practice (in Brno) that I was in trouble, but I just concentrated on recovering the feeling of competing, of being on the bike again. I got to the point where I had to decide if I wanted to risk a bit and improve my lap times. In the end, in my condition, I decided to try and stay where I was. I knew I could ride faster, but I didn't try.´

`The big problem was all the protection on my leathers. They were very uncomfortable and one of them even gave me a wound,´ explained Miralles. `Although I had some pain and lack of mobility in my leg, I could stand that. But I felt heavy and had a lot of problems handling the bike and finding the best place on the saddle.'

The young Spaniard is continuing with a recovery programme that is focusing almost exclusively on swimming at the moment – because his injuries won't let him attempt any other exercise. Miralles is hoping to have recovered full fitness by the end of the season, and to have rediscovered the kind of form he was showing before the crash in Italy.

`In Japan I'm going to ride with caution again, and I'll improve step by step, without rushing. I hope in the last race of the Championship I will be able to ride at my hardest, the same as I did before the crash or better if possible.'
