Enrique Jerez to replace injured Terol

Enrique Jerez will stand in for the injured Nico Terol at the forthcoming fly-away races, starting with The Japanese GP in Motegi. Caja Madrid Derbi Racing youngster Terol badly injured himself after falling from a bicycle.

Terol was taken to hospital following the incident and had to undergo surgery to remove his spleen. Jerez has been competing in the 125cc Spanish Championship aboard a privateer Derbi this season and is currently 20th in the championship standings.

Enrique Jerez is 18 years old and was born in Cartagena. The Spaniard has taken part at four GPs to date - the three Spanish races in 2004 and this year's Catalunya GP.

`When Derbi called me I was very surprised and I thought they were joking,' he explained. 'Receiving the new is amazing and I'm looking forward to making the trip to Japan. It's like a dream and I'll try to take advantage of this fantastic chance with an official bike. But I'm conscious that I don't know anything about the circuit and also the fact the world championship is a very high level. It's a difficult situation to to be placed in, although I'll have a very good team and hope to pay back all their confidence. I'm so sorry this opportunity had to arrive after an injury to a friend of mine, but all these chances arrive when you don't expect them,' he added.

125cc, 2005, Nicolas Terol
