Motegi 2004: Pedrosa at the top of an all-Honda podium

In 2004, Dani Pedrosa took another step towards the 250cc crown by winning the Japanese GP at Motegi. The Spanish youngster took his fifth win of the season after starting from pole position, beating fellow Honda rider and compatriot Toni Elias, while his Telefonica Movistar Honda team-mate Hiroshi Aoyama completed the podium.

The Japanese race turned out to be an all-Spanish affair as Pedrosa and Elias dominated the rest of the field. Aprilia rider Randy de Puniet was not able to follow the pace of the leaders and eventually crashed out of fourth position after being rejoined by Hiroshi Aoyama and wildcard Yuki Takahashi.

Takahashi was eventually pipped to fourth spot by Sebastian Porto. Alex De Angelis took fifth ahead of Roberto Rolfo, Shuhei Aoyama, Franco Battaini and Alex Debon.

By winning Dani Pedrosa extended his tally to 234 points, Randy de Puniet remained second with 187 points, with Sebastian Porto a further point adrift of the Frenchman.
