Kallio sets early pace

Mika Kallio went fastest in the first 125 practice session this morning at the Twin Ring Motegi. The riders enjoyed warm and sunny conditions, with only a few sparse clouds showing at the start of the day.

Series leader Thomas Lüthi was second fastest, over 0.8s adrift of Kallio. Lüthi was followed by Honda factory colleague Fabrizio Lai, who clinched his first ever GP podium in Japan last year.

Kallio's Red Bull KTM team-mate Gabor Talmacsi was fourth quickest ahead of Spaniard Sergio Gadea and Italian Mattia Pasini, both on Aprilias. Hector Faubel posted the seventh best time ahead of local hero and 125 rookie Tomoyoshi Koyama. Marco Simoncelli and Manuel Poggiali completed the top 10.
