Aoyama dictates the pace at home

Hiroshi Aoyama grabbed the second 250cc pole of his career today at his home circuit in Motegi. The Japanese rider blazed to pole position by setting a new lap record of 1'51.843. The Movistar Honda rider will be joined on the front row by Jorge Lorenzo, who was only 0.016s adrift on his first 250cc appearance at the Twin Ring Motegi.

Aoyama's younger brother Shuhei secured third in a last-gasp push, demoting Aprilia's Alex de Angelis to the last spot of the front row.

Andrea Dovizioso qualified in fifth position, followed by his Team Scot team-mate Yuki Takahashi. Defending Champion Dani Pedrosa, who crashed again in the free practice session, was only seventh ahead of Frenchman Randy de Puniet. Casey Stoner and Sebastian Porto completed the top 10.
