> Hiroshi Aoyama starts from pole for only the second time in his Grand Prix career, the previous occasion was at the Japanese Grand Prix in 2003 held at the Suzuka circuit.

> Honda riders have taken the top three places on the grid for a 250cc Grand Prix for the first time since the European Grand Prix at the Catalunya circuit in 1997.

>Jorge Lorenzo is starting from the front row for the ninth successive race. If Lorenzo wins the race he will become, at the age of 18 years and 137 days, the youngest-ever winner of a 250cc Grand Prix.

> If both Shuhei and Hiroshi Aoyama finish in the top three it would be the first time that two brothers have been together on a Grand Prix podium since Nobuatsu and Takuma Aoki did so in the 500cc race at the Imola GP in 1997.

> If Bridgestone rider Shuhei Aoyama wins the race it would end a run of 148 successive Grand Prix wins by Dunlop in the 250cc class. The last non-Dunlop win in the class was Tetsuya Harada's victory at the Indonesian GP in 1996 using Michelin tyres.
