Gabor Talmacsi will start the Japanese Grand Prix from pole position as he posted the fastest time of the final qualifying session at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit. The Hungarian snatched his first pole from Red Bull KTM team-mate, Mika Kallio, who dropped down to fifth after crashing on his last flying lap.

Local hero Tomoyoshi Koyama qualified on the front row for the first time of his GP career, he was second fastest ahead of Mattia Pasini and Marco Simoncelli.

Kallio, who walked away unscathed from his crash in the late stages of the session, will head a second row completed by Hector Faubel, Thomas Lüthi and Manuel Poggiali.

The third row will be formed by Alvaro Bautista, Sergio Gadea, Julian Simon and Mike di Meglio.
