Tamada fastest before qualifying

Makoto Tamada was back at the front of the MotoGP field in the final free practice session this morning at Motegi. The Konica Minolta Honda rider, who won last year's Japanese GP, topped the timesheets ahead of Ducati Marlboro's Loris Capirossi and Gauloises Yamaha rider Valentino Rossi.

Brazilian veteran Alex Barros, another former winner of the Japanese GP, was fourth fastest ahead of Suzuki riders Kenny Roberts Jr and John Hopkins, who are riding on Bridgestone tyres just like Capirossi.

Kawasaki's Shinya Nakano and Alex Hofmann confirmed the potential of the Japanese tyres by posting the eighth and ninth quickest times behind Repsol Honda's Max Biaggi, while Colin Edwards completed the top 10.
