Lüthi on pole at Sepang

Thomas Lüthi grabbed his third pole position of the season on Saturday afternoon at Sepang. The Swiss youngster clocked a best lap of 2'14.546 in the early stages of the session and remained unchallenged until the chequered flag. The Honda rider will try to consolidate his Championship lead in Sunday's race and will be looking to improve on the 11th position finish he achieved last year in Malaysia.

Second fastest was Italian Mattia Pasini, who has qualified on the front row for the last four races, but has only managed to score 11 points in that period. Gabor Talmacsi was the fastest KTM rider with third on the grid, just ahead of team-mate Mika Kallio.

The second row of the grid will be headed by Marco Simoncelli, who crashed out of last week's race at Motegi. Lukas Pesek was sixth fastest ahead of his Metis Racing team-mate Manuel Poggiali, while KTM's Julian Simon secured the last spot on the second row. Hector Faubel and provisional pole holder Mike di Meglio completed the top 10, with the Frenchman unable to improve on his time from Friday.
