Kallio back on pole position

Mika Kallio took his eighth pole position of the season in today's final qualifying session at Losail. It's the first time the Flying Finn has secured top spot on the grid since the German GP held at Sachsenring back in July.

The Red Bull KTM rider smashed the track pole record, set last year by Jorge Lorenzo, with a best lap clocked at 2'09.455. Kallio was joined on the front row by his two Red Bull KTM team-mates, Gabor Talmacsi and Julian Simon, who took second and fourth respectively, while Aprilia rider Mattia Pasini squeezed in between the orange machines taking third.

Fabrizio Lai, who held on to pole until a mass late charge, will start from the first spot of the second row ahead of former World Champion Manuel Poggiali. Marco Simoncelli, who was the fastest in the first qualifying session, was only seventh fastest this time around, ahead of Angel Rodriguez who clinched his best qualifying result of the season with eighth position on the grid.

Championship leader Thomas Lüthi was ninth fastest, over half a second adrift of poleman and title rival Kallio, while Frenchman Mike di Meglio completed the top 10.
