Lorenzo retains pole position

Jorge Lorenzo fended off the challenge of Alex de Angelis to retain pole position in the second qualifying session of the Marlboro Grand of Qatar. The Fortuna Honda rider, who missed the previous 250cc World Championship round as he was serving a one-race ban, is determined to shine this weekend at the Losail circuit, a venue where he clinched victory last year in 125 class in what was the closest-ever Grand Prix finish.

Alex de Angelis was relegated to second by Lorenzo, but could still be happy with his fifth front row result of the season. The San Marinese, who recently signed a new deal to ride for the official Aprilia factory team until 2007, will be joined on the front row by title contenders Casey Stoner and Dani Pedrosa.

Argentinean Sebastian Porto, winner of last year's inaugural 250cc Grand Prix at Losail, will head the second row from Andrea Dovizioso, Hiroshi Aoyama and Randy de Puniet, who suffered a crash midway through the session.
