Pedrosa given medical boost in Barcelona

Dani Pedrosa underwent thorough medical tests on his troublesome left shoulder in Barcelona on Monday. The Spaniard injured the shoulder during the Japanese Grand Prix at Motegi over two weeks ago and has been hampered by the problem in the last two races in Malaysia and Qatar.

Doctors have confirmed that the reigning World Champion has sustained lasting damage to the shoulder and it is understood that surgery would be the best course of action. However, Pedrosa is determined to postpone any operation as he pursues another world crown. As a result, he has been given an intense recuperation programme to follow to ensure he will be fit for the Polini Australian Grand Prix in two weeks.

That race at Philip Island is very important for Honda rider who has seen his lead at the top of the 250 championship standings eroded in the last two races by closest rival Casey Stoner. The Australian has taken consecutive victories in Malaysia and Qatar and is now right back in the hunt for the quarter-litre crown.
